Xiaomi's alleged Redmi 5 budget smartphone has been leaked in images and specifications, indicating the handset may launch later this year. A Weibo tipster has claimed details of the upcoming Redmi 5 including prices, variants, and innards of the alleged Redmi 5.
According to the Weibo tipster, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will start as low as CNY 859 (roughly Rs. 8,000) for the 3GB RAM and 16GB storage variant. There will be two more variants much like its predecessor: CNY 1,039 (roughly Rs. 10,000) for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and CNY 1,099 (roughly Rs. 10,500) for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Looking at the prices, the alleged Redmi 5 seems to be slightly costlier compared to the Xiaomi Redmi 4 though we need to wait for the actual launch to happen.
The Weibo tipster has also shared some images that purportedly show the Redmi 5. Looking at the images, the alleged Redmi 5 design seems to take strong inspiration from the Redmi Note 4.
Coming to the specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is said to come in two SKUs based on chipset: one will have Snapdragon 625 while another will have Snapdragon 630 under the hood. It's worth noting that Xiaomi Redmi series (not including the Redmi Note series) has so far only included Snapdragon 400-series of chipsets, and if the leak comes out to be true then it will be an upgrade in terms of SoC for the series.
Other specifications include 5-inch full-HD display, dual-SIM support, 16-megapixel rear camera, expandable storage support, 5-megapixel front camera, and 3680mAh battery. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is said to run on MIUI 9.0 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The Redmi 5 leak was first picked up by Android Crunch from Weibo.
Recent leaks have pointed to a new Redmi Note series smartphone in the works, though the new leak seemingly confirms a new Redmi phone may be on the cards as well. The alleged Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A retail box was leaked recently while in a separate leak, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 specifications were leaked.
